The ISTEP test is important for several reasons:

• It gives students the opportunity to show what they've learned in the last year.

• ISTEP data is  the key component in assessing  individual student progress, and also that of schools.

• ISTEP data is used to assess student progress.

• The IDOE  accountability model relies on ISTEP data.

• Teachers use ISTEP data to  develop instruction strategies.
